Grove City / Urban Scrawl

Ok, keeping with the theme of this summers events, Once AGAIN there are two skateboarding events going on at the same time... First; the second annual Grove City contest is happening this Saturday August 29. beginner, intermediate and advanced divisions in both the street and bowl areas.Registration starts at 10 am. Last years contest was pretty fun, I'm sure this year will be the same.
ALSO on Saturday, the third annual Urban Scrawl event is going on at Dodge Park. It's an all day event with art being created on site, local bands and a skate contest/jam at the skatepark. This event has been rapidly growing each year. I'm gonna try to hit up both events at some point...

Chris Higgins!

Chris Higgins is one of my all time favorite Columbus skaters. If there was ever a nicest guy award to be given out; he'd get it for sure...At 36 years old Chris skates more than the average kid half his age, He is a proud new father and has a full work schedule. He's also been teaching skate lessons at the various Columbus skateparks for the last few years.....

Chris gets boards from Five Points and Shoes from Emerica...

Check out this recent footage of Chris destroying the bowl at the Powell skatepark. Video courtesy of G.F.

Kickstand Music Festival / Free Flow Contest

Tomorrow August 15th a new Columbus based skateboard company: Resident Skateboards is having it's official release party at the Kickstand Music Festival in Westerville. I don't really know many details about this but you can go to Residentskateboards.com to get more info...it's sponsored by Old Skool and Blueprint and a bunch of beer companies. Old Skool is having a "skate park" there, I'm not sure if it's open fo everyone to skate or if it's a demo.. you'll have to call Wally or Ted to find out.. Add Resident to the ever growing list of local Columbus companies; how many are there now? five??...I just hope they chill out with the logo rip off graphics and skulls with mohawks...

Then on Sunday, The Free Flow Contest series comes to town.. It will take place at the Flow Skatepark. The contest is for skaters 13-21 years old. Check out ridetheflow.com for more info.
