Consumed by Fire Art Show

Longtime Columbus Skateboarder Adam Lowe and Local tattoo artist Scott Santee are having an art show this Saturday April 3rd in Columbus Ohio during Gallery Hop....

From Adam's blog site: http://www.adamlowephotography.blogspot.com/
"Since 1994 I have been shooting punk, hardcore, and metal shows. Shooting live bands is how I got my start and bearings in photography, so I am super excited to be showing between 200-300 pieces at this show. Scott Santee will be showing some amazing paintings of black metal portraits. From what i have seen so far, I am super stoked to be doing a show next to this dude. Ed Ostrander will also be adding a live display set up and sound design."

Canal Winchester park is finally open

The Canal Winchester parks and recreation people have finally opened the park. Taylor and I drove out there yesterday to check it out. It was super crowded.. I was amazed to see how many kids skate that live out there. I grew up about 10 minutes away from Canal and back then I'm not sure if there were ANY skaters... the park is ok. I understand that there was a limited budget, but it's way too small. They did managed to put a lot of obstacles into a tiny space.. The place will be a lot more fun on days that no one is there. Definitely worth checking out, however I know I'll only go there occasionally.

Canal Winchester is on the far South East side of Columbus. From downtown, take 70 east to 33 towards lancaster, turn right at Gender Rd, left on Groveport Rd. The park is 1/4 mile on the left.

SMELLY CURB RE-BIRTH

It's back. Columbus skateboarding icon Donny Humes has brought Smelly Curb Zine back from the grave yet again. Donny has been doing the zine on and off since the late 80's. Donny was a part of the original Westerville crew, worked at Windbreakers and Sunsports back in the day and ran Dodge park all through the 90's. He's a skateboarder through and through. He moved away a to Georgia a while back but last year he returned to Columbus. This is issue # 40.

From Donny's Facebook page: "SKATEBOARDERS OF THE WORLD...SMELLY CURB 402010 HAS BEEN RELEASED. IT IS AVAILABLE AT EMBASSY BOARDSHOP AND THRILL VULTURE TATTOO. IT'S 36 PAGES OF VISUAL ONSLAUGHT FOR $2. YOU CAN GET INFO IN THE ZINE FOR PURCHASING T-SHIRTS AND HOODIES"

Gabe gets a heel bruise

If you happened to notice that Gabe Peterson didn't enter the contest this weekend, this is why... last Tuesday he tried to do a wallride over the rooftop box at the Skate Naked park about a billion times bruising his heel in the process...

Enjoy his slams.....

Cowtown Showdown contest video

I made an edit of both days from this weekend's contest. Saturday was basically a big skate jam. Arnold Schwarzenegger made an appearance; posed with some kids for pictures and made a speech. Towards the end of the day the Blueprint guys along with Habitat's Fred Gall did a demo. Sunday was the contest. Between the beginner, advanced and sponsored divisions there were nearly 200 kids competing. It made for a really long day..But I think everyone had fun. I'd like to thank Wally and Tedd for managing to pull this thing off. I think that it went pretty well overall. I'm looking forward to seeing how this event grows over the years.

Cowtown Showdown pre-party

On Friday night March 5th there was a pre-party for the Cowtown Showdown entitled "Boards,Bikes and Babes" @ the Kickstand Pub near Polaris... The night was pretty fun. A ton of people showed up. Besides the skaters, the crowd was pretty diverse. The Blueprint guys and Freddy Gall were in attendance. I saw Taylor get in some kind of fight with some rowdy chick and Fred ended up fighting his friend Don towards the end of the night. Check out this video I put together documenting the night....

ARNOLD / COWTOWN SHOWDOWN UPDATE!!!!!

There have been a ton of questions this week about whats happening, when, where to register? etc...

I spoke to Tedd today and he provided me with the answers..

Instead of the Top Shop contest there is a Shop Sponsored / Flow rider division. Personally I think this is a way better option...

Saturday 6th: Pre-Registration: 9am to 4:30 pm

Advanced and Sponsored Open Skate: 10am to 4:30pm

Blueprint skateboard demo: 5:00 to 6:00pm

Sunday 7th: Check in and Registration: 9am to 2:30pm

Beginner warm ups: 9am to 11:30am

Beginner contest: 11:30 am to 1:00pm

Advanced Warm ups: 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Advanced contest: 2:00 to 3:30pm

Sponsored warm up: 3:30 to 4:30

Best trick: 4:30 to 5:00pm

Sponsored Contest: 5:00 to 6:30pm

Winners for all contest announced.

All registration is at the door. There will be tables there that will direct skaters to the right spot in the lobby. If you're in the contest then you get a pass for two days that lets you hang out at skateboarding area and all of the other events for Arnold too. They have a tram that will take people to all of the events. Anyone there to watch the event will have to buy a all events ticket which they can get at the lobby of vets too. That pass is day to day but covers all of the events as well.

So basically if you register on Saturday you get an entire day to practice... Sounds good to me.
