Chad Knight retires

1031 Skateboards issued a press release earlier today announcing that Chad Knight has retired from professional skateboarding. I hope you know who Chad is. if not, watch the video below and get stoked. Chad grew up in Westerville, moved to San Diego when he graduated and went pro shortly after. Over the years Chad has had numerous board sponsors, H-street, Evol, Maple and 1031 most notably. In the mid to late nineties he was one of the first to have a pro shoe on Osiris. (back then Osiris was HUGE) In the early 2000's he spiral fractured his fibula in what should have been a career ending injury. It took a couple years for him to recover and unfortunately he faded a bit from the spotlight. However he came back and has put out some great footage over the last few years.

The first couple minutes of the video below is almost all from Columbus, Gahanna, Westerville, OSU, downtown and from the old Sunsports Skatepark. Best of luck in the future Chad!

West Campus Penitentiary

The weather is broken for the most part. Time to get some skating done outside. Stuart Inamura recently got an iPhone 4 and he's making a series of edits using it's camera.
Here is the first one. OJ, Paul, Kaleb, Shane, Carey, both Max P and Max G. Max Palmer's eight trick line has to be one of the longest ever done at the Campus park. IGLU!

BLUEPRINT OHIO TRIP

Blueprint filmer Alex Pelletier just posted up a super good edit from their week long Ohio/Pennsylvania trip. Footage of Kevin Coakley, Jon Nguyen, Marty Murawski and Paul Shier skating Skate Naked, Ollies, Evolution Skateparks and the Bethlehem PA skate plaza. Lil' Dan has a couple guest tricks. I'm really stoked these guys came out and hung out in Columbus for a second year in a row.

SWAMPED

Dan sent me the link to his newest edit called Swamped; nearly 12 minutes long. lots of random clips. The skating starts about 4 minutes in. (OJ's trick at the 4:30 mark is rad) The edit has clips from the week long trip that the Blueprint team took along with Resident (and Taylor) all through Ohio and PA.

WHASSAMATTA YOU BONUS!

My friend Stuart made a local video recently it's called Whassamatta You. perhaps you've seen it. The video premiered Cowtown weekend and it's on sale at Embassy for $5. He just posted an extra part on youtube that was supposed to be a bonus part on the DVD. It's from a road trip to Colorado that the crew took in 2009.

COWTOWN SHOWDOWN WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS

This year's Cowtow Showdown was held at the Skate Naked Skatepark in Columbus Ohio March 5th and 6th 2011.Overall it was a pretty great weekend. I think most everyone had a good time. This is an edit of the highlights of the weekend including the pre-party the Friday night before the event and a demo by Blueprint Skateboards and riders from both Cincinnati brand Insturment and Columbus's Resident Skateboards.
I did my best to capture as many tricks by as many kids as possible. I apologize if anybody did something awesome and I missed it.

This is the second year for the contest as it's part of the Arnold Classic Sports festival in Columbus.

COWTOWN SHOWDOWN #2

Alright, in three days the 2nd Annual Cowtown showdown contest will be here.
Like last year it's a 2 day amateur contest and pro demo. Unlike last year, it's happening at the Skate Naked Skatepark rather than Vets Memorial downtown. In case you don't know the contest is an offshoot of the Arnold Classic Sports Festival that will pretty much take over Columbus this weekend. NIGHT OF THE LIVING SHRED PART 2

Just like last year this weekend is going to be the busiest of the year for Columbus skateboarders. As you know the Cowtown Showdown (Arnold Classic)skate contest is happening again on Saturday and Sunday. I'll post the flyer tomorrow.

To kick off the weekend,Ryan Moya has put together the second "Night of the Living Shred" event/bowl jam/party at Skate Naked. Classic Skate videos will be projected on the walls, there will be a BBQ and skate DJ Anthony Fischetti will be providing the tunes. It should be a great night.
